Argentina: Investments for us$ 8,8 B in freight train network

The Government announced the start-up of the new system of Open Operation of Freight Trains, to lower transport costs and boost the development of regional economies to the full enforcement of this deregulated system, in 2023. The measure implies that different stakeholders may operate train formations, paying a fee for the use of the roads of the concession companies, which in itself will imply a great saving in freight, since 80% of agricultural production it moved by trucks.

In addition, it was announced that us$ 8800 million will be invested in the freight train network to renovate 9,850 kilometers of roads in a 4 year process, which will generate some 77,000 jobs.

In the next few years, the capacity of the system is projected to reach 97.9 million tons, thus increasing not only the cargo but also the variety of products, benefiting both the agroindustry and the construction, the products with origin and destination to Vaca Muerta and the loads in general.
