Hunan, Canton of Schaffhausen Establish Friendly Province-Canton Ties

Hunan and Canton of Schaffhausen reached an agreement in Changsha on establishing friendly province-canton relationship on February 8, 2018.

CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Vice Secretary and Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe met with Canton of Schaffhausen Financial Minister Rosmarie Widmer Gysel, and signed the agreement.

CPC Hunan Provincial Standing Committee member and Executive Vice Governor Chen Xiangqun, Ambassador of Switzerland to China Jean Jacques de Dardel, and Hunan Government Secretary General Wang Qun were present. 

Governor Xu first welcomed the Swiss guests, then briefed Hunan’s regional advantages and development targets. He said, “In recent years, Hunan has been carrying out the rise of central China strategy, developing the competitive industries such as engineering machinery and rail transit. Taking the opportunity of the national “Belt and Road” initiative, Hunan strengthened international exchange and cooperation, and made progress in innovation and opening-up, and maintained sustained economic and social development. Canton of Schaffhausen has advanced light industry and environmental protection technologies, and is experienced in management. Hunan and Schaffhausen have leveraging areas. Establishing friendly province-canton relationship will create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.” Xu hoped that the two sides will explore cooperative potentials in scientific and technological innovation, trade and investment, environmental protection, and cultural tourism, so as to benefit both countries.

Gysel highly praised Hunan’s innovation vitality and development potential. She expected to share experiences and promote substantial collaborations with Hunan in economy and trade, science and technology, environmental protection, tourism, and sustainable development. 

According to the agreement, Hunan and Canton of Schaffhausen will strengthen official communication, and exchanges and cooperation in economy and trade, regional sustainable development, medical care, population management, education and training, and tourism promotion.
