Workforce Restructuring in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand & Vietnam

On 15 May 2020, the DFDL Employment & Labour Team organized a well-attended webinar on Workforce Restructuring in Cambodia, the Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Our panel of experts comprised Marion Carles-Salmon (Head of Regional Employment and Labor Practice), Tran Thi Vu Hanh (Partner), Kraisorn Rueangkul (Partner), Nishant Choudhary (Partner), Samnangvathana Sor (Senior Consultant, Cambodia), Standré Bezuidenhout (Senior Associate, Lao PDR) and Huyen Nguyen (Legal Adviser, Vietnam). Each in turn shared their insights with the audience on ways to minimize COVID-19 related labour challenges in compliance with local law as well as practical steps and considerations when implementing options available to employers to cut down labor costs in each jurisdiction. Restructuring (such as leave arrangements and changes in working conditions) and downsizing options (such as redundancy schemes or mutual terminations) were all outlined. The available options in each jurisdiction were clearly laid out with Marion serving as the moderator of this session. The concluding portion of the live event was taken up with questions from attendees on the topics discussed with clear and practical answers and advice in return from our team.
