How do we make Australian infrastructure ESG investment ready to deliver enduring value?

Infrastructure has always been seen as a safe bet for finance markets. With increased mobilisation to tackle climate change and growing concerns about resilience and adaptive capacity, the long-term, consistent nature of infrastructure assets is starting to swing from being a strength to a risk for financiers and investors.

According to Bloomberg Intelligence, it is estimated that by 2025 ESG finance will reach around $50 trillion globally. A lost decade of action means that Australia is now playing catch up with other markets to access and leverage ESG investment to deliver more sustainable transport and utilities.  In 2032 Brisbane has committed to delivering a climate positive Olympic Games. This presents us not only with a clear milestone to determine our model for climate action and industry transformation, but to leapfrog from global laggard to leader.

This won’t happen by accident. Significant effort across the sector, backed-in by policy at a federal and state level is going to be required to deliver accelerated ambition, alignment and action. While a number of infrastructure asset classes, such as renewables, are in the box seat for accessing this opportunity, the question stills remains how existing asset classes such as transport and utilities best reposition to respond to this powerful market signal and use it as a lever for industry transformation and delivery of value.

This event will explore what work needs to be done to make Australian and New Zealand infrastructure ESG investment ready, catalysing this growing opportunity to shape world-class industry and delivering a better future for people, planet and the economy.
