The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is located in the northwest border area of China. Xinjiang province is 2000 km long, and 1650 km wide, which makes it 1/6 of the total land area of China.
Xinjiang province borders numerous countries such as, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. It has a boundary line of more than 5600 km, which makes up 1/4 of the total land boundaries of China. Most importantly, Xinjiang holds the most number of ports opening China to the world.
The Expo will be held in Urumqi, Xinjiang, from September 2nd - 7th 2013. Currently, 33 countries and 10 multinational companies have confirmed their participation in the Expo.
Ministers and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Central Bank, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Public Information, Department of Customs, will be present. In addition, representatives from over 20 countries have been invited to attend the various forums that will take place during the week. For example, countries such as Malaysia, Italy, Hungary, Austria, UK, Netherlands, and Uruguay have confirmed to hold trade and investment promotion events.
In addition, the United Nations Industry Development Organization (UNIDO) will hold a "Green Silk Industries Cooperation Forum" to discuss greater cooperation amongst nations to adopt green energy alternatives in industrial activities. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) also plans to hold a “Regional Workshop on Asian Energy Highway” to discuss regional energy interconnectivity and power transmission.
Furthermore, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Bank for International Settlements, the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other prominent international economic organisations from eight neighboring countries have been invited to attend the Financial Cooperation forum and other related forums.
