Regional Energy Co-operation Summit

Date: 29-31 Jan 2018
Location: Abidjan

The Regional Energy Co-operation Summit is an annual investors’ meeting focused on energy, infrastructure and the financing of energy projects. The Summit discussed the cross-border co-operation and regional integration, unlocking West Africa’s investments in energy and infrastructure to support industrialisation. Cross-border co-operation in West Africa is crucial to developing mechanisms that facilitate trade and power exchange among States.

Following on from the successful Powering Africa: Ghana meeting in Accra last year, EnergyNet returns to West Africa to host this regional gathering to shine a spotlight on the opportunities for collaboration between West African countries.

Once again we collaborate with the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP), the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) and the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE).

The Regional Energy Co-operation Summit is normally held in West Africa each year, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire was the host country for 2017. Côte d’Ivoire is one of the fastest-growing economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as being the entry point for African and international companies seeking to invest in West Africa. It is also home to the headquarters of the African Development Bank (AfDB), in line with the theme of the forum ‘unleashing international capital to drive forward West Africa’s regional integration and universal energy access’.

Who Attended?

ECOWAS Energy Ministers, Government Representatives, Heads of Utilities, Regulators, power developers, technology providers, financiers and multilateral agencies from across West Africa attended the summit, discussing strategies to engage the private sector and multilaterals.
