Gathered Together:
Paintings from Yuendumu
A talk on Aboriginal Art
Saturday 4 February 2023, 3 - 4 pm
The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery
The exhibition runs from 1 - 25 February 2023
On Saturday 4 February, the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery is hosting a talk on Aboriginal art. Rebecca Hossack will be in conversation with Cecilia Alfonso, manager of the Aboriginal art centre in Yuendumu, one of the oldest established Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia. The talk accompanies our upcoming exhibition, Gathered Together: Paintings from Yuendumu, which will be on display at the gallery from 1 - 25 February 2023.
It is over thirty years since the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery first exhibited paintings from Yuendumu. Our upcoming exhibition will celebrate this longstanding connection; many of the artists participating in the exhibition are the grandchildren of those featured in the original show.
Located almost two hundred miles north west of Alice Springs, Yuendumu is a significant centre for artists of the Warlpiri language group. Yuendumu art is characterised by its flamboyant enjoyment of colour, and its bold, organic, sense of design. That strength and distinction have been sustained over the ensuring decades.
