Johnson & Johnson and Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone jointly launched the "Johnson & Johnson Boao Innovation Chain" in Boao, South China's Hainan province on Nov 7, with the goal of creating a comprehensive and innovative platform that integrates the display of medical scientific research results, technology promotion, product application, academic exchanges and high-end talent training.
The innovation chain will also help advance the implementation of cutting-edge technologies in the medical and healthcare field and more innovative medical products in urgent clinical need, said Will Song, chairman of Johnson & Johnson China.
Gu Gang, director of Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, said Johnson & Johnson was one of the earliest multinational medical and healthcare companies that have joined hands with the pilot zone to introduce world cutting-edge innovative products into the zone.
He said last December Johnson & Johnson completed China's first cardiac surgery using electromagnetic mapping technology at Boao Super Hospital, which was also the hospital's first cardiac surgery using innovative electrophysiological techniques introduced through the green channel established by the preferential policies for the pilot zone, marking an almost simultaneous application of the technique in China and the United States.
"We welcome global pharmaceutical giants to showcase their first-class drugs, equipment and technologies in our pilot zone. Such collaboration benefits the high-quality and high-standard development of international medical tourism and high-end medical service within the zone," Gu said.
The pilot zone was established by the State in 2013 to help explore a new growth model of the country's healthcare sector. It enjoys nine preferential policies, including special permission for medical talent, technology, devices and drugs.
