Saudi Arabia: Joining the clean energy race
In 2018, Saudi Arabia will be putting out a total of 4 GW of renewables between Q1 and Q4. This will be broken down into eight projects, of which 3.2 GW will be solar PV and 800 MW will be wind.
Tapping nuclear energy will make Saudi Arabia the second country in the GCC to do so after the UAE, which is set to start up its first reactor in 2018.
Short to medium-term challenges facing Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical industry include the sustainability of its competitive advantage, technological innovations and competition from the US and China.
