This unique program focuses on the economic and politics of doing business with China’s leading trade partners in Latin America. During the two-week professional workshop, Chinese business executives and M.B.A. students who are focusing their careers on Latin America will learn from financial experts about the opportunities and challenges of doing business in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Chile. Participants will engage in discussions with academics and scholars about the political and economic structures of these key Latin American countries. Participants will also speak with specialists about corporate social responsibility, as well labor issues and environmental concerns in each of the countries.
As a special feature of the program, Chinese executives and M.B.A. students will travel to Mexico City to meet with top officials of the government of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto as well as with leading business executives.
The workshop will also offer cultural experiences in San Diego and Mexico. Participants will enjoy a winery tour in Southern California and a ferry ride on San Diego Bay. In Mexico City, participants will visit Mexico’s renowned Anthropology Museum.
The program will begin on May 5, 2014, on the Institute of the Americas campus, which is located at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), in La Jolla, California. During the first week of the program, Chinese executives and M.B.A. students will participate in classroom sessions with business experts and scholars, as well as making a one-day field visit to Tijuana, Mexico, to tour hightechnology manufacturing plants on the U.S.-Mexico border.
During the second week of the program, Chinese executives and M.B.A. students will travel to Mexico City, Mexico, where they will engage in high-level meetings with business executives and tour manufacturing plants that export to the Chinese market.
The objective of the program is to strengthen economic ties between Mexico and China by offering Chinese business executives oneon- one access to Latin America’s top economic officials and business executives. The program further aims to reduce barriers to doing business by offering sessions on the economic and political systems and business culture of Latin American countries.
The participants in this program will be Chinese business executives and M.B.A. students who are focusing their careers on Latin America. The workshop will be limited to 30 participants, so early registration is recommended.
Language requirements: The workshop will be offered entirely in Mandarin
Visa requirements: A multi-entry visa to the United States will be necessary for this program. Participants will be traveling to Mexico and returning to the United States during the two-week workshop.
